Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman is a fast-paced thriller that begs to answer the age-old question, "if you had the ability to get away with something nefarious, would you do it?" I read this book as the May 2018 pick for Reese's Bookclub x Hello Sunshine. Erin and Mark go on their honeymoon where they indeed find "something in the water" and must decide what their next steps will be. What ensues is a nail-biting page turner of how their lives change when other dark forces start also looking for what was in the water. I tore through this book until the very end and honestly didn't see the twist at the end coming. I was a little disappointed in how the book wrapped up as I thought there were a lot of unanswered questions left. I don't mind when books leave the open ending to interpretation but I felt like I was so unsatisfied by how it ended, which was a bummer. I will say the end of the book does feel like it allows for a sequel and if that were to be the case my rating for this book would jump much higher. If this book ends up being a stand-alone thriller than it was a great quick-read but the ending leaves a lot to be desired.
