Until It Fades by @katucker_ follows single mom Catherine, formerly infamous in her small town for scandal. Catherine has always tried to avoid the spotlight after a relationship with her high school art teacher blew up and made her talk of the town. Becoming a single mom with an imprisoned drug dealer certainly didn't help her reputation either. Now she's living a simple life working at the local diner and raising her 5 year old daughter Brenna.
One night driving home late from work she happens upon a crash. The driver is killed on scene but she pulls the passenger out and saves his life. That passenger happens to be none other than Brett Madden, NHL superstar. Brett is desperate to connect with the woman who rescued him and Catherine wants nothing to do with being in the spotlight again. When Brett finally tracks down Catherine the spark between them is palpable. Is this attraction just gratitude for her saving his life, or could this be the start of so much more?
I really liked this one! K.A. Tucker is so good at building well-developed characters who you feel like you just know in your soul. This one is a slow burn. I found myself as frustrated as Cath and Brett at times with all of the build-up. This one isn't a quick explosive romance but more a delicately paced relationship that acknowledges what it's like to be a single mother and the considerations that need to be made when dating. The payoff is completely worth it and I finished this one in one shot. If you want a great family story with a modern day Cinderella love story woven in - this one is definitely for you!
