The Last Time I Saw You

The Last Time I Saw You by Liv Constantine starts up right after Katie’s mother has been murdered. Katie starts receiving presents from the suspected killer in the form of dead animals and sadistic nursery rhymes letting her know that she’s next. Everyone in Katie’s life becomes a suspect and Katie becomes increasingly paranoid as the killer dials up the stalking. She believes it has to be someone close to her but every time she thinks she has it figured out someone else gives her something new to be suspicious of. Everyone is lying, everyone is hiding something and Katie knows it’s only a matter of time before the killer comes for her. Even as she begins to question her own sanity, Katie vows she will stop at nothing until she gets justice for her mother...

I really enjoyed this one. I listened to it almost exclusively on audio and Julia Whelan narrates. Her voice is everything and she perfectly captures the building suspense and desperation that starts eating at Katie. The narration had me on edge as the plot began to hit its crescendo and I felt just as panicked as Katie.

I will say I’m not a huge thriller reader and I only dabble time to time so this had enough of the elements I really enjoy. One of the big twists I was able to figure out but there were plenty of small details that left me guessing and surprised. The suspense in this one lies much more heavily in Katie’s increasing turmoil and less in external plot twists but there are still quite a few of those. If you are new to the thriller genre this is a good one to start with to keep you hooked and guessing as you work through the story. And if you do audiobooks at all - this book works so great on that platform!
