What Happens in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand is the second book in the Paradise series and picks back up with the Steele family.
After learning about their father’s secret life in the first novel, this one begins with Baker, Cash and Irene figuring out next steps in life. They find themselves being called back to St John permanently and we get to catch back up with Ayers and Huck as well through shifting POVS. Rosie’s narrative is added this time around, which provides some more insight into her relationship with Russell and how they got together. Was Russell the solid mid-western father Irene, Cash and Baker knew? Or was he involved in something much more criminal?
I really enjoyed the second installment. This one also unfortunately ends on a cliffhanger so we’ll have to wait a full year until Oct 2020 to see how the Steele family ends up! This one brought more FBI drama, more of the Ayers love square and more of Maya growing up and learning about her new family. I really liked getting Rosie’s POV through her diary entries and learning about how her and Russ met in the first place. I loved seeing Irene, Cash and Baker make new life decisions as they figured out how to move on. Overall this one was a good quick read to dive back in with these characters but it did feel a little like filler at times. I was hoping for a few more answers but with a three book series underway I totally got having to wait it out a little linger before the big finale. If you loved Winter in Paradise make sure you get caught up with the Steele’s in this second installment!
