Long Bright River

Long Bright River by Liz Moore follows once close sisters Kacey and Mickey. Mickey works as a police officer patrolling the same streets in Philly that her sister now works. Kacey has struggled with addiction her entire life as her sister Mickey has worked to try and clean up those streets.

Despite their differences now, they were once inseparable and Mickey continues to worry about her. When Kacey goes missing during the same time that a slew of bodies begin to show up in Mickey’s district, she fears the worst may have happened to her. Mickey begins to investigate and will leave no stone unturned when it comes to ensuring her sister’s safety…

I really loved this one. I’m so glad we picked it for our December #thesixspotlight. The story alternates timelines of THEN and NOW so you see Mickey searching for Kasey in the present while flashing back to the sisters through the years in the past. You come to understand their complex relationship and how addiction tests the threads of family and sisterhood. Themes of police corruption are also explored as the mystery weaves smoothly through the story. For those who love character driven novels that explore family dynamics – you have to grab your copy when LBR is released this Tuesday Jan 7th!

I also listened to much of this one on Libro.fm through their ALC program and the audiobook was fantastic! Thanks to Riverhead Books and Libro.fm for the gifted copies to read/listen to! All opinions are my own!
